Abstract

Hemangiosarcoma is a malignant neoplasm common in dogs, uncommon in cats and which confers a reserved to poor prognosis in patients affected with the visceral form, and favorable in those who develop the cutaneous form of the disease. Histopathological examination is essential for the definitive diagnosis, as well as imaging tests to delineate the tumor area, assess surgical margins and search for metastases. The treatment of choice is surgical removal, which can be associated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This study aimed to report an unusual case of muscular hemangiosarcoma in a canine patient, which was treated through tumor excision, using reconstructive techniques for repair of the abdominal wall with omentum, polypropylene mesh and transposition of the rectus abdominis muscle.
