Abstract

Partial lobectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove focal lesions affecting half or two-thirds of the peripheral lung lobe, or to perform biopsies. This intervention can be carried out through two main approaches: lateral thoracotomy, performed in the fourth or fifth intercostal space, and median sternotomy. Both techniques aim for the precise removal of the affected area, ensuring effective surgical intervention. The purpose of this work is to describe the case of a 10 month old dog that suffered an attack by a Pitbull and presented clinical signs of apathy, subcutaneous emphysema, and dispnea, with visualization of the subcutaneous tissue being inflated with respiratory movements in the right hemithorax, which underwent partial lung lobectomy surgery that became necessary after a complete evaluation of the lung lobes, identifying an area of irreversible injury in the right caudal lobe. In the reported case, partial lobectomy showed positive evolution, and the patient recovered well, receiving medical discharge.
