The study of traumatic injuries in wildlife, especially those caused by gunshot wounds, is of paramount importance in understanding the impact of human activities on natural ecosystems. This case report presents an examination of a gunshot wound in a lower limb of a Blue-and-Yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna), shedding light on potential threats faced by these birds in their natural habitats. Following the macaw's rescue, a thorough examination was conducted to ensure no remaining projectiles were present in its body. Subsequently, the bird underwent a specialized medicinal protocol focused on removing myiasis and closely monitoring the healing process. Understanding such incidents can provide insights into the complex interaction between human actions and the well-being of avian populations, urging us to develop and implement effective strategies for treatment, clinical monitoring, release, and conservation.
