Abstract

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It was carried out an seroepidemiological study about Leishmaniosis, a great important zoonosis, involving street canine population from Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, Brazil, considering the occurrence of American Tegumentar Leishmaniosis (ATL) autochthonous human case in 2000. This research was developed with the objective of observing the efficiency of the Indirect Immunofluorescency (IFI), pattern in humans, for detection of antibodies against Leishmania sp.

 

in dogs. Firsthy, collection 5 ml of blood of ulnar vein to obtain of serum, of 370 errant dogs, in a period from 2000 to 2001, capturated by Centro de Controle de Zoonoses (CCZ), in Campos dos Goytacazes. Of the researched dogs 8 (2.16%) samples were positive and 362 (97.84%) they were negative. The IFI for Canine Leishmaniosis, besides having proven efficiency in the detection of antibodies anti-Leishmania sp., it presents a larger specificity degree, compared the others tests until then used. Campos dos Goytacazes country because of the occurrence of a human being report, it supposes to be and endemic area for Leishmaniosis.
